With a mixture of pain and respect, the people of Mayabeque paid tribute this Friday to the 32 combatants who fell in the line of duty in the sister nation of Venezuela.

The First Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Edelso Antonio Ramos Linares, in his address, extolled the dignified work of the heroes of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) and demanded the sovereignty and independence won by the land of Bolívar, as well as the cessation of violence and the prevalence of justice so that peace may reign among all men of goodwill.

"In the year of the Centenary of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, we denounce the barbaric, criminal, and illegal act that cut short the lives of our 32 brave soldiers. We will always defend the Martían concept that 'Homeland is Humanity' and that unity will be the barrier where Yankee warmongering interference will crash. We will continue protecting the Revolution," stated Ramos Linares from the popular Plaza de los Deportistas (Sportsmen's Square).

Following his speech, the march unfolded along the entire length of Calle 40 in the municipality of San José de las Lajas, heading to the Nelson Fernández Sports Complex to honor the principles of struggle and solidarity defended with their blood by the fallen Cubans.

According to First Lieutenant Alejandro Cortíz Milián, head of the Unit for Crimes Against State Security, "the blood of the Cuban is strength, courage, and the refusal to be subdued by Yankee imperialism. With pride, we reaffirm our support for Venezuela and our people, with the commitment and love for the homeland that the 32 combatants defended."

The Honor and Glory event was attended by the highest authorities of the Party and Government in the province and the capital city, combatants from the FAR and Minint, workers, students, and the people of Mayabeque, all reaffirming the constant of authentic revolutions that: "When one falls like this, defending the values and principles in which one believes, death enlarges the doors of history."
