Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment today to deepen bilateral ties with Cuba, particularly in strategic sectors of mutual interest, according to statements made by the Malaysian Ambassador, Muhammad Radzi Bin Jamaludin.

In an interview with Prensa Latina, the diplomat noted that on February 6 of this year, the two nations celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of high-level political relations. He also highlighted the close connection with the Cuba-Malaysia Parliamentary Friendship Group of the National Assembly of People's Power.

Jamaludin emphasized that both governments continue to work toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda.

In this context, he indicated that Malaysia is exploring investment opportunities in sectors such as biopharmaceuticals, commodities, and the digital economy. He also noted mutual interest in developing projects linked to renewable energy.

ASEAN Leadership and Business Prospects

As the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2025, Malaysia recently organized a meeting in Havana to analyze prospects for joint business ventures with Cuba.

The meeting was attended by Cuban legislator Jean Pedro Carbonell, heads of mission from ASEAN member countries, as well as representatives from Sri Lanka and South Korea. Also present were executives from the Center for the Promotion of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (ProCuba) and officials from various Cuban government agencies.

“It was a very productive session, with excellent dialogue between the parties, and we benefited from the new perspectives shared by the participants,” stated the ambassador.
