Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador thanked the Cuban government on Thursday for sending some 500 doctors and nurses to confront the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said that Cuban doctors and nurses helped save lives and that Mexico needs more health specialists. Because of that reason, the country is expanding the scholarships for the specialties in which Mexico has a deficit.

He revealed that part of the Cuban 500 doctors are working in the expanded military hospitals in Mexico City with the Navy and the armed forces' help.

Lopez Obrador explained that the country needs around 30 thousand doctors additional doctors, and there will be scholarships to face this situation.

"What we have experienced confronting the COVI. It epidemic cannot happen again, it is immoral what has been done with the training of health professionals, " he stressed.
