Lawmakers Review Report on INDER’s Performance

The Health and Sports Commission of Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP) presented and debated a report today evaluating the work of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (INDER).
Cristina Luna Morales, president of the commission, delivered the document during a working session at Havana’s Convention Center, ahead of the Fifth Ordinary Session of the legislature. Her remarks outlined the challenges facing INDER at all levels, from grassroots programs to high-performance athletics, largely due to the tightening U.S. economic blockade against Cuba.
The discussion included Osbel Lorenzo Rodríguez and Susely Morfa González, first secretaries of the Communist Party in Las Tunas and Villa Clara, respectively, who attended as guests. Lawmakers praised the thoroughness of the report, with representatives from Mayabeque, Holguín, Cienfuegos, Granma, and Havana acknowledging efforts to overcome structural obstacles.
Several legislators noted that during regional visits, they observed persistent issues but also local initiatives to address them with community and sports workers’ support.
Osvaldo Vento, head of INDER, accompanied by his leadership team, thanked the commission for its dedication and reaffirmed the commitment to upholding Cuba’s principle of sport as a right of the people.
The Health and Sports Commission will reconvene tomorrow to debate the proposed Cuban Sports Law, which will be presented to the full assembly on Thursday.
