Tokyo, Aug 31 (Prensa Latina) Latin American athletes on Tuesday won 10 medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, with Cuba winning two gold medals.

Cuba won medals early in the morning with Robiel Yankiel Sol in the long jump, class T47, to give his country the first gold medal of the event.

Sol surprised with a first jump of 7.46 meters, a Paralympic record, and from that moment on he troubled all his rivals, who were unable to dethrone the 18-year-old Cuban athlete.

The Cuban athlete beat the American Roderick Townsend's 7.41-meter record set on September 14, 2016 at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Paralympic Games.

Later, Cuban sprinter Omara Durand won her sixth gold medal in the history of Paralympic Games, by winning the final of the 400 meters, class T12, for the visually impaired.

Durand, with her guide Yunior Kindelan, achieved a time of 52.58 seconds, her best time of the season, to beat Ukraine's Oksana Boturchuk, silver (55.33) and Venezuela's Alejandra Paola Perez, bronze (57.06), and Greilyz Greim Villarroel, fourth (57.69).

The Cuban ahtlete, 29 years old and undefeated since 2011, will try to win more medals when she participates in the 100 and 200 meter races, distances in which she is the world record holder.
