In 2024, Italian cooperation consolidated its presence in Cuba with 18 initiatives in the fields of culture, sustainable agriculture, and territorial development.
This was reported by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) on the occasion of the release of its annual report, specifying that total investments reached 69 million euros.
The initiatives were characterized by an integrated, inclusive, and territorial approach, strengthening local capacities and promoting innovation, gender equality, and climate resilience.
In the cultural sphere, the Santa Clara project revitalized the convent of the same name, transforming it into an international training center for heritage restoration.
Meanwhile, the Creative Zones program enhanced cultural spaces in Havana and Matanzas, engaging young people and women in initiatives dedicated to sustainable fashion, comics, and visual arts.
In the agricultural sector, the Hab.Ama program strengthened more than 370 local production entities, contributing to improved food security in the capital.
PiùCafé continued modernizing the coffee supply chain, while the new Agrobúfalo and Línea Verde projects integrated livestock and food production with the use of renewable energy sources.
Finally, once completed, the Havana Est project promoted participatory governance and the development of municipal strategies for sustainable development.
In collaboration with the European Union and the United Nations, AICS also launched the Sustainable Municipalities program, aimed at fostering the ecological transition in eight municipalities across the country.
