The Canadian airline WestJet (WS) has resumed its international flights to the Cuban province of Cienfuegos during the island's peak tourism season.
The airline will operate two weekly flights to the Jaime González International Airport in this city, located approximately 250 kilometers from Havana, bringing visitors to the tourist destinations of Cienfuegos and Trinidad.
These weekly flights, one from Toronto and another from Montreal, reinstate a regular route, each carrying nearly 200 passengers, reaffirming Canada as the primary source market for tourists to Cuba.
Yuri Quevedo Pupo, the delegate of the Ministry of Tourism in this province, stated to Prensa Latina that "with these flights, the territory will reach about 18,000 tourists per day, the majority of them at the Rancho Luna Hotel on the beach of the same name."
Quevedo Pupo highlighted that "visitors will enjoy cultural and leisure offerings in the city of Cienfuegos, whose historic center is recognized as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity, in addition to extra-hotel options and nature tourism."
Visitors will also enjoy the tourist options of Trinidad and the Ancón Peninsula in the nearby province of Sancti Spíritus.
"In Trinidad, we have the facilities of the Trinidad del Mar Hotel, the Costa Sur Hotel, and the Ancón Hotel ready for our visitors. We have prepared all conditions for this high season, be it supplies, sanitary conditions, and entertainment," Luis Ernesto Camellón Curbelo, the MINTUR sub-delegate in Sancti Spíritus, told Prensa Latina.
Camellón Curbelo emphasized that they have also prepared extra-hotel activities in the historic center of Trinidad and nature tourism options in the Valley of the Sugar Mills and Topes de Collantes.
Recently, Cuban Minister of Tourism Juan Carlos García Granda, during a visit to Canada, stated that Cuba expects to reach one million Canadian tourists in 2026, as Cuba has suitable conditions and is favored by that nation's leisure market.
Cuba is focused on improving its offerings for the Canadian market, including promoting long-stay programs to accommodate different segments of vacationers, such as those who visit tropical nations during the harsh northern winter.
