The Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) opened the photo exhibition 'Padre desde el principio' (A father from the start) on Saturday, on the occasion of Universal Children's Day, which was approved by the United Nations General Assembly on November 20.

The exhibition, being held at the Riviera movie theater in Havana, presents a set of snapshots donated by different fathers, in which the work of a father figure in the education of their children is stressed.

During the exhibition, a series of short films for children sponsored by ICAIC in favor of the education for children with autism, and the animated feature film 'Las aventuras del pequeño Colon' (The Adventures of Young Columbus) will be screened.

In Cuba, the government is committed to the rights of children, their welfare and full development through several social and cultural programs in which the priority and protection granted to children is revealed.

Universal Children's Day was established when the UN adopted the Declaration on the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. It boosts care for this sector of the world population, as well as promoting educational actions for all children.
