The exhibition "Hudson's Afternoons. Bicentennial of Juan Jorge Peoli (1825-1893)" will be inaugurated tomorrow at the National Museum of Fine Arts, in this capital.

The exhibition opens at 11:00 a.m. local time, in the lobby of the Antonio Rodríguez Morey Information Center, in the Cuban Art Building of the same headquarters, as announced on its social networks.

This exhibition was conceived from institutional funds, and honors the memory of Peoli, whom Cuban national hero José Martí described as “loyal in drawing, wise in nuances, surly and melancholic in color.”

The opening coincides with the year of the 130th anniversary of the death in combat of Martí, who frequently visited Peoli at his home in New York, a meeting place for intellectuals, artists and patriots.

The collection includes “El cometa” and “La joven alemán” (The German Girl), as well as bibliographical references to the work of Juan Jorge Peoli y Mancebo (New York, October 1, 1825 – Sagua la Grande, Las Villas, June 8, 1893), which will also contribute to recognizing the presence of the painter in the annals of the history of Cuban art, and his impact on the Museum’s collections.
