For Dr. Jorge Luis Palenzuela, a Cuban from the province of Artemisa, the Hotel Nacional de Cuba is an icon of the nation's history and culture, which is why he returned with his family to celebrate the installation's 95th anniversary.
The celebration, attended by Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of the Republic, featured a runway showcasing accessories from the 1930s and highlighted the patrimonial values and traditions that characterize this National Monument institution.
Dr. Palenzuela recalled that 45 years ago, when he got married, he came to the Havana hotel to enjoy his honeymoon and returns whenever possible, now with his wife and grandchildren. "This is a magical site," confesses Palenzuela, and mentions that he prefers to walk through the spaces in the early morning because he senses "its ghosts and angels" that nest in the place.
Jorge Yero, a banquet captain with over 15 years of experience, explained the excellence of the restaurant where he works, noting its connection with clients who prefer its culinary offerings. The hospitality professional recalled how some time ago he was given the responsibility of attending to the then-President of Argentina, Cristina Fernández, and she was moved by a large photograph of Che Guevara that remains in the establishment.
Dunia Quesada, public relations specialist, commented that Spanish and Mexican clients are repeat visitors to the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, admirers of the architecture, history, and contemporaneity that coexist in the building.
Juan Carlos García Granda, Minister of Tourism, authorities from the Gran Caribe chain, and other sector executives attended the celebration of the emblematic hotel.
