Historic Basque town demands end of US blockade on Cuba

Madrid, Jun 28 (Prensa Latina) Under the name of 'Kubarekin Elkartasuna. BlokeorikEz!' (Friendship with Cuba, Blockade No!), a solidarity and cultural day dedicated to the Caribbean nation was held in the historic Basque town of Otxandio, in Spain.

As Prensa Latina learned on Monday through Jose Manzaneda, Cubainformacion coordinator and Euskadi-Cuba head of Communication, the event paved the way to update participants about the issue in that Basque Country region.

Otxandio is the town on which the first massive bombing was executed on July 22, 1936 during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). That occurred many months before the Nazi-Francoist forces attacked the Basque towns of Durango and Gernika.

A banner supporting the Unblock Cuba campaign was displayed at Plaza Andikona, as a symbolic gesture that unites two great historic injustices: the fascist bombing in Otxandio and the United States blockade for almost 60 years.

Cuban singer Danieuris Moya, a member of D'Capricho duo, provided the music for the activity that was also used to raise funds for the Syringes for Cuba campaign, in support of the Covid-19 vaccination in the Caribbean nation.
