High-Impact Social Works Reopened in Havana

The changes made during the reconstruction of laboratory areas at the Ramón González Coro Gynecological-Obstetric Hospital are evident both inside and outside this prestigious healthcare institution located in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality.
A detailed exposition by Dr. Otto Rafael Recio Rodríguez, the hospital's director, revealed that the remodeling of the Central Microbiology Laboratory, the Genetics Laboratory, and other hospital areas was made possible through the use of the 1% fund generated by tax payments within the municipality. An amount of 60 million Cuban pesos (CUP) was allocated for the reconstruction costs, under the weekly supervision of Party and Government authorities to oversee the execution of finances from the territorial contribution, which included furnishings.
"Without that territorial contribution, we would not have been able to complete this dream for our hospital, which includes the remodeling of areas that improve the visibility of the hospital's emergency ward," stated Recio Rodríguez. He highlighted the reconstruction process, planned and executed in record time with quality and precision, and noted the revival of adjacent areas to be converted into spaces related to the hospital's external services.
He emphasized the materialization of directives—aimed at rehabilitating service areas—by Dr. Reynol Delfin García Moreira, then Vice Minister of Public Health and present during the working visit in his new role as Vice Governor of Havana. He conveyed to the population his team's "commitment of honor" to achieve better service and a reduction in infant mortality rates.
Izquierdo Alonso referred to the necessity of preserving Healthcare as one of the Revolution's achievements and pointed out that *"the indicator that weighed on us since 2025 is the Maternal-Child Program,"* linked to infant mortality during the hospital process due to various causes, some related to the precocity of pregnant women and the lack of follow-up on medical indications in municipal health areas. Nevertheless, the figure of 7.3 per thousand live births in this institution shows a downward trend.
He stressed how much can be achieved "when we manage with rigor and demand that the income obtained from the payment of the territorial contribution be used for social benefit, which is the essence of the Revolution's work as a whole." He explained the reasons why the demands and guidance of the Party must be part of the work agendas of municipal governments to fulfill local development objectives and stimulate the involvement of state and non-state actors for this purpose.
La Timba's New Rhythm
The novelties in the La Timba neighborhood have already become part of daily life and add new socially beneficial works. Residents now have a facility for the Family Care System (SAF), with a construction cost amounting to 9 million CUP, serving 52 elderly persons who will be able to access their lunches in a facility equipped with the necessary means to make them feel at home, furnished with modern resources.
In this location, José Ramón Monteagudo Ruíz, a member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee, called for the preservation of what has been achieved and directed the Party and Government authorities of the Plaza de la Revolución municipality to continue cleaning public access areas (streets and avenues) as part of the efforts for a more beautiful and sustainable capital.
