With representatives from some 30 countries in attendance, the Third International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Left-Wing Parties and Movements begins today in Havana. Until next Friday, October 17, activists, intellectuals, and internationally recognized political analysts will exchange experiences and research on the global challenges facing the left.

Among the experts confirmed for the event—organized by the Ñico López University of the Communist Party of Cuba—are Isabel Monal, Fernando Buen Abad, and Ignacio Ramonet. During the opening session, Ramonet will deliver the keynote lecture “Information and Media Manipulation: The Left Facing the Challenges of Quantum Artificial Superintelligence.”

The inaugural day will also feature a panel of historians and sociologists focusing on geopolitics and international relations, as well as the presentation of several books on leftist thought and its leaders. The meeting’s program includes visits to the Fidel Castro Ruz Center, Casa de las Américas, and a community in Havana’s La Lisa municipality.

Other scheduled activities include a conference on the effects of the U.S. economic blockade on Cuba, the presentation of a special edition of the magazine Cuba Socialista, and a session dedicated to the people of Palestine and their resistance to Israeli hostilities. On Friday, several participants are expected to attend a solidarity event with Venezuela in the Cuban capital.

Once the Third International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Left-Wing Parties and Movements concludes, the First Granma-Rebelde International Festival will begin, placing Cuba within the global circuit of left-wing festivals. This latter event will feature delegations from various Cuban media outlets participating in panels and cultural activities, culminating with a concert by the group Adalberto Álvarez y su Son on Sunday.

Both the Meeting and the Festival “will be dedicated to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, in commemoration of the centennial of his birth” in August 2026, according to the organizers, which include the magazine Cuba Socialista and the newspapers Granma and Juventud Rebelde.
