Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) UN General Secretary António Guterres said here on Monday that the world is on a highway to climate hell with our foot on the gas pedal.

In his speech at the high-level session of the 27th Conference of Parts to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), which began in this Egyptian city on Sunday, Guterres warned that our planet is on course of reaching tipping points that will make climate chaos irreversible.

Humankind has one option, cooperating or perishing, the UN general secretary warned.

In the face of this situation, he called for a historic agreement between developed and emerging economies including limiting temperature increase to 1.5 degrees, speeding up the delivery of funds of the former to the latter and boosting energy transition.

Considering climate problems, the last of our priorities is unacceptable, he said.

Guterres urged the most developed countries to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases.

In addition, he called on the international community to boost the use of renewable energies.
