The exhibition “Fusion and Harmony. Traditional Chinese Painting, Silk Road Project” opened today in Havana to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the Asian giant.

Hosted at the gallery “The Kingdom of This World” in the José Martí National Library of Cuba (BNJM)—considered a temple of knowledge and civilization—the traveling exhibition celebrates the beauty of art and the deep friendship between both nations, according to the opening remarks.

The embassy of the Asian nation on the island reaffirmed its commitment to “encourage and support the cultural and artistic communities of both countries in order to strengthen cooperation, accelerate the building of a China-Cuba community with a shared future, and reinforce the special bilateral relations,” as stated in the delegation’s address.

Xu Fushan, Vice President of the National Academy of Arts of China, expressed gratitude to cultural officials, artists, and attendees for their warm welcome “in this golden autumn.”

“We gather at the BNJM to witness the grand inauguration of ‘Fusion and Harmony. Traditional Chinese Painting,’ a Silk Road project featuring renowned Chinese painters. I would like to extend my sincerest greetings to directors, visual arts awardees, and all the friends present,” said Fushan.

He also conveyed appreciation to Cuba’s Ministry of Culture, the National Council of Performing Arts, the Cuban Embassy in China, and all collaborators involved in the event.

Fushan emphasized that the exhibition “has the honor of being part of the series of activities celebrating the Cuban Culture Festival; it symbolizes the profound dialogue and harmonious coexistence between Chinese civilization and Cuban, even Latin American, culture.”

As a key cultural exchange project within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, he added, “we hope to showcase to the Cuban people the innovative vitality of our homeland in the new era through painting—an art form that embodies millennia of Eastern wisdom while embracing the unique charm of Western regional culture.”

The National Academy of Arts of China is committed to fostering “an international model that integrates industry, academia, innovation, and research; this exhibition is more than a simple showcase. It is a cross-border artistic dialogue,” concluded Fushan.
