The Chilean Prosecutor's Office confirmed today the recovery of the last missing worker’s body from the El Teniente mine, bringing the total number of fatalities to six following Thursday's collapse at the site.
The latest victim identified is 33-year-old Moisés Pavez, who was working alongside four other miners in the Andesita sector of the copper mine — the largest of its kind in Chile and the world, with approximately 4,500 kilometers of underground tunnels.
The bodies of Gonzalo Núñez, Álex Araya, Carlos Arancibia, and Jean Miranda were previously recovered. Another worker, Paulo Marín Tapia, died on the day of the incident, and his funeral was held on Sunday.
With the rescue efforts now concluded, authorities are shifting focus to determining the cause of the collapse. Regional Prosecutor for O’Higgins, Aquiles Cubillos, told the press that the investigation would be conducted with full professionalism and transparency.
“We can guarantee an objective investigation, and we will dedicate all our expertise and resources to it,” Cubillos stated.
The accident also left eight workers injured.
