The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported its collaboration in preparing training classrooms for farmers and specialists in central Cuba.
In a statement released in the capital recently Friday, the global agency added that 11 classrooms for such functions will soon be equipped in the provinces of Villa Clara and Sancti Spiritus, with technologies and computer inputs such as smart boards, computers, laptops, servers, and other networking devices.
The action will strengthen the management and governance of local food systems, as well as the capacities in the territories to develop, implement and evaluate strategies, policies and regulatory frameworks for this purpose.
This collaboration is part of the project Sustainable Food Security in Cuba, in its component Strengthening Policies for Sustainable Food Security in Cuba (POSAS), implemented by FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG), with financing from the European Union (EU).
FAO’s Strategic Framework 2022-2031 gives special importance to innovation, technology and digital tools as accelerators of the transformation of agrifood systems in e-commerce, pest control, crop genetics, natural resource management and warning of food security threats.
