EU-CELAC Summit, People’s Summit end in Brussels

The 3rd Summit of the European Union (EU) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), and the People's Summit, two parallel forums that will conclude in this capital on Tuesday.

The second day of the bi-regional event of heads of State and Government includes a plenary session, a working lunch, and a closing press conference.

It is expected that this 3rd Summit, which returned after an eight-year absence, addresses the way forward in the relations between the 27 EU members and the 33 CELAC countries, which account for more than one billion people.

Climate change, digital transformation, social challenges, and the search for global peace and multilateralism, should be part of the agenda, marked by challenges and a recent past of unfavorable relations for the Latin American and Caribbean nations.

The vision for the People’s Summit is of vigilance and alertness to ensure that the relations between the regions on both sides of the Atlantic be equal, without interference and colonial traces, and with respect for sovereignty and self-determination.
