The Territorial Division of the Cuban Telecommunications Company S.A. (ETECSA) in Camagüey province is advancing key programs aimed at strengthening mobile telephony, the Nauta Hogar home internet service, connectivity in the legal sector, and energy sovereignty.
Luel García Lorenzo, director of the division, reported that work is underway to expand 4G coverage in the 1800 and 2100 frequency bands, following the arrival of 31 new units in the province.
To date, 25 sites have been installed in the municipalities of Camagüey and Florida, which are expected to boost capacity and provide greater access to 4G service. Fourteen additional radio base stations are being upgraded in the municipal seats of Guáimaro, Sibanicú, Vertientes, Esmeralda, Santa Cruz del Sur, Nuevitas, and Camagüey to improve service in the 1800 band. Florida and Minas already benefit from these upgrades.
Expanding 4G to rural communities and large population centers is another priority, with plans to meet demand in localities such as Lugareño, Senado, Cascorro, La Jagua, Imías, and Altagracia. Efforts are also underway to strengthen mobile coverage in Esmeralda, Jimaguayú, Sibanicú, Guáimaro, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Nuevitas, Minas, Sierra de Cubitas, and Camagüey, where 3G service will be introduced for the first time.
ETECSA is also focusing on the tourism sector, continuing to improve telecommunications in Cayo Cruz facilities and planning the installation of a radio base along the corridor to the Santa Lucía resort area.
Regarding Nauta Hogar, which currently serves more than 19,000 clients in the province, García Lorenzo stated that 192 of the 384 planned new connections have already been installed thanks to a recent allocation of service cards. The goal is to reach 600 new connections by year-end. In the legal sector, 71 new links have been established, including 22 via fiber optic cable.
According to recent studies, there is potential to expand bandwidth for both residential and institutional clients as conditions permit, thereby improving service quality.
In response to the country’s ongoing energy crisis, the company is replacing battery banks and increasing the number of radio base stations with backup power systems.
