Cuban Olympic Committee President Roberto León Richards stated on Monday that Cuba’s participation in the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción carries special significance, as it will serve to evaluate future members of higher-level delegations, including some expected to compete at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

“We hope our delegation can take full advantage of this opportunity, demonstrate their abilities, and defend the colors of the national flag at the level our people deserve,” he emphasized.

“The goal is to deliver the results expected by our sports movement and the country’s authorities, confident that our athletes will perform at their best,” he added shortly before traveling to the host city along with other members of the athletic delegation.

The group included sports officials, specialists from the Institute of Sports Medicine, delegates, support personnel, and members of the press assigned to cover the continental event, scheduled from August 9 to 23.

In the Paraguayan capital, the Cuban archery team is already in training, participating in a preparation camp organized by Panam Sports. Since Wednesday, an advance team has been on-site to ensure optimal conditions for the delegation’s stay, with arrivals continuing according to the competition schedule.

As previously reported, Cuba will field 231 athletes competing in 28 sports, with its strongest medal prospects in wrestling, athletics, judo, canoeing, rowing, and weightlifting.
