The latest data from the Electoral Court today confirm the growth of the opposition Frente Amplio (FA), the most voted party in the Sunday elections in Uruguay.

At the closing of the elections at 06:00 local time, and with 99.92 of the votes counted, the FA rose to 46.22 percent of the vote, and was the only party to exceed one million votes.

In the first round of the 2019 elections, the FA obtained 39 percent of the ballots.

With such data, its presidential candidate, Yamandú Orsi, will go to a runoff with the standard bearer of the ruling National Party (PN), Álvaro Delgado, on November 24.

Delgado will have the support of the parties of the current government coalition.

The PN, of President Luis Lacalle Pou, has 28.15 percent of the ballots.

It is followed by an improved Colorado Party, with 16.86 percentage points and 385,685 votes.

In Sunday’s election tally, Gustavo Salle’s Sovereign Identity Party (IS), which claims to be anti-system and even opposes vaccines and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, came out surprisingly stronger.
