Three Cuban cyclists debuted among the top twenty in the opening of the 45th edition of the Vuelta a Chiriquí 2025 in Panama, a race held today over a challenging 140.8-kilometer route from David to Las Lomas.
Ricardo Delgado and Vicente Sanabria crossed the finish line today in 13th and 14th place respectively, both with the same time of 3:18:55 hours, 5:31 minutes behind the leader, Pablo Mudarra of the Costa Rican team Colono Bikestation Kolbi.
They were followed by Randol Izquierdo, who posted a time of 3:19:26, placing 20th overall and fifth in the under-23 category. Thanks to the trio's performance and their times, the Cuban squad was positioned in seventh place among the 19 participating teams.
Next was Joselín Piedra (3:20:37) in 27th place, despite a dramatic crash in which he was involved, suffering a leg injury that required seven stitches. However, he expressed that it will not prevent him from continuing the race this Saturday.
The other four Cubans—Yunier Álvarez (35th place), Brian Guardado (36th), Yariel de León (75th), and Amed Marcos (78th)—arrived in a large pack that recorded a time of 3 hours, 20 minutes, and 50 seconds, 7 minutes and 26 seconds behind the day's winner.
Álvarez among the masters and Guardado, in the junior category, both secured second places in their respective classifications on a stage that included one mountain prize and two flying goals.
