HAVANA, Cuba – A group of Cuban health professionals arrived in Dominica on September 10 to join the existing health brigade on the island. The delegation includes specialists in intensive care, general medicine, neonatology, obstetrics, radiography, laboratory, electromedicine, and nursing, as reported by Prensa Latina. Cassanni Laville, Dominica’s Minister of Health, received the doctors and technicians, highlighting over 20 years of health cooperation between the two nations. Laville acknowledged the solidarity and commitment of the Cuban professionals in aiding other countries.

Dr. Mirce Ayala, representing the brigade members, reaffirmed their dedication to providing quality service to the people of Dominica. She expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality, viewing it as a testament to the strong friendship between Dominica and Cuba. Cuba’s medical collaboration with Dominica began in the 1990s, and since then, approximately 130 young Dominicans have graduated from Cuban universities.

This ongoing partnership underscores the importance of international cooperation in enhancing public health and well-being. The arrival of these health professionals is part of a broader effort to strengthen Dominica’s healthcare system. The Cuban medical team will work alongside local healthcare workers, providing specialized medical services and participating in training and knowledge exchange programs. This collaboration aims to improve the overall standard of healthcare in Dominica.

The Cuban health professionals’ presence in Dominica is expected to have a significant impact on the island’s healthcare services. Their expertise in various medical fields will help address critical healthcare needs and enhance the capacity to deliver high-quality medical care to the population. The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Social Services, along with the Government of Dominica, extends a warm welcome to the Cuban health collaborators.

The partnership between Dominica and Cuba highlights the significance of international solidarity and cooperation in addressing global health challenges. An official welcome ceremony is scheduled for Friday, September 15, at the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital. The event will mark the formal integration of the new Cuban health professionals into Dominica’s healthcare system.
