Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, visited today the Agricultural Production Agency of AZUMAT, in the municipality of Florida, Camagüey, to assess the collective’s efforts to achieve food sovereignty.

Local Programs and Commitments

Yorisbel Espinosa Álvarez, director of the agency, explained that they are currently implementing ten subprograms to supply six dining facilities and more than 400 workers in the sector, while also fulfilling commitments with the province of Ciego de Ávila and the Logistics Company of Havana.

Among these subprograms, he highlighted animal feed production, pig farming, sheep and goat raising, rabbit breeding, freshwater fish farming, cattle ranching, assorted crops, aquaculture, sugarcane, and animal health.

Recognition of Performance

Espinosa noted that “for two consecutive years, this collective has earned the status of National Vanguard, a distinction we expect to reaffirm in 2025, based on the solid economic results achieved by the agency.”

He emphasized that among those results is the “average payment of more than 10,300 pesos per worker, a figure that reflects both the efficiency and the commitment of the workforce.”
