Dakar 2026: Argentine Luciano Benavides Tames the Desert
especiales

Argentine motorcyclist Luciano Benavides conquered the Saudi sands and sealed a victory in the eighth stage today, catapulting him to the top of the 48th edition of the Dakar Rally.
At the helm of his KTM, Benavides turned the day into a stage of navigation and composure: he opened the track without tire marks, read the roadbook like an oracle, and steadily shaved minutes off the clock until he tilted the desert's balance in his favor.
On the 717-kilometer route—the rally's longest, starting and finishing in Wadi Ad Dawasir—the Argentine imposed a relentless pace, a cool head, and calculated boldness that allowed him to cut nearly five minutes from his direct rivals, securing his third stage win and second consecutive victory.
The 30-year-old from Salta finished 4 minutes and 50 seconds ahead of the previous race leader, Australian Daniel Sanders, displacing him to second place, while American Ricky Brabec concluded in third.
The sand, wind, and solitude were not enemies but allies to his skill. Each waypoint confirmed the overturn in the overall standings: from pursuit to command, from the dust to the summit, with a minimal margin that promises a fierce battle in the days to come.
With this stroke of authority, the rider from Salta fuels his Dakar legend and rekindles the epic of a race that grants no respite, where every kilometer is a challenge and every victory an act of courage.
