The Council of State of Cuba reviewed the implementation of the government's economic stimulus plan during a session presided over by President Miguel Díaz-Canel and the body's chairman, Esteban Lazo, it was reported today.

The meeting of the Caribbean nation's highest state body addressed key issues, including boosting domestic production—particularly food supplies—the approval of a new customs decree, and other matters of public interest, according to state television news.

As part of the government’s program to correct economic distortions and revitalize the economy, Council members evaluated compliance with measures stemming from the "Highest Oversight Exercise of the Ministry of Agriculture" (Minagri), conducted by the National Assembly of People's Power (parliament).

Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia assessed the results of agricultural production and prioritized programs such as urban and suburban agriculture, seed production, bio-products, and others.

He also reviewed the performance of projects strengthening local food systems, the impact of applying scientific advancements in production management, and the efficiency of Minagri's business system.

The Council approved a new Customs Decree-Law, which, according to the report, modernizes legislation in line with current international standards and practices while adhering to principles established in both international agreements and Cuban law.

Additionally, the Council examined the current execution of this year’s budget allocations, particularly measures aimed at reducing the nation’s fiscal deficit. In this regard, officials urged stricter enforcement of tax measures approved by the legislature, as well as stronger actions against underreporting and tax evasion, the televised report explained.
