The Raw Materials Recovery Enterprise in the central province of Villa Clara is involved in the production of plastic wood, an ecological and resistant material that is used in the construction of different items such as benches, walkways, trash cans and beds.
Segio Bermudez Perez, chief specialist in design and mechanical technology, told the Cuban News Agency that the product is made from raw materials from both the industrial sector and the community.
He indicated that it is an excellent alternative to replace traditional wood, due to its durability and resistance.
Since 2022, they have been providing services to the Dolphinarium in Cienfuegos province and have carried out other works in the Cienfuegos Club and in hotels in keys of Cayo Santa Maria in Villa Clara, such as the Grand Aston and Hotel Playa, he added.
Jaime Cardenas Marquez, senior specialist in the innovation and development area, pointed out that plastic wood contributes to the circular economy cycle because it is made from recycled mixed plastic.
He commented that, in addition to being an economic product, it contributes to the protection of the environment, since the waste does not have landfills as its final destination.
Cardenas Marquez added that this initiative arose from the need to reduce imports and replace traditional wood with a durable element.
Plastic wood is resistant to rain, chlorinated water, ultra violet rays and the sun, and is a necessary alternative for the care of the environment and the economy.
