Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel today evaluated the implementation of the reform known as monetary order in the province of Mayabeque, as part of a working visit to that western territory.

In a meeting with authorities of that region, the president stressed the need to execute as planned this crucial reform for the country's economic and social strategy.

He recognized that, in spite of certain errors in the implementation, it is important to advance with the process, since it is 'essential to strengthen the economy and improve the conditions of the entire population'.

Also at the meeting, the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Planning, Alejandro Gil, called for promoting jobs in the business sector and, where there is demand, which generates goods and services, as reported by local television.

Other items on the agenda of the government team were food production and the measures taken in Mayabeque to control the current outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, issues prioritized at national level.

In this regard, Diaz-Canel pointed out the urgency of 'working intensively with all the experience and the existing knowledge, in order to evolve towards the stage of new normality designed as soon as possible'.

The monetary ordering, which began on January 1, refers to monetary and exchange rate unification, wage and price reform, and the elimination of subsidies and undue gratuities, and is considered one of the most important economic processes in the history of the country.
