Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel voted on Sunday in the election of lawmakers to the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament) at polling station 1 in constituency 44 in his city of origin.

The head of State, a candidate himself to Parliament from this central Cuban city, where he was born 62 years ago, and 49-year-old Clara Nubia Aliaga are the two representatives to the national legislature from District 2.

This area in the provincial capital, where both parliamentary candidates exercise their right to vote, covers the communities of the Marta Abreu University of Las Villas, Capiro-Santa Catalina, Vigia-Escambray, and Manajanabo.

According to the current population, the Central Villa Clara province will have 32 lawmakers in Parliament to represent 13 municipalities, 50 percent of whom will be grassroots delegates, and the rest are provincial and national representatives. Of that total, 56 percent are women and all of them have a higher education level.

Diaz-Canel, who is also the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), arrived today a few hours after his return from the Dominican Republic, where he participated in the 28th Ibero-American Summit.
