Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel began in this capital on Monday the official activities of his visit to Iran, responding to an invitation by his counterpart, Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, during his stay in Havana.
Leading a high-ranking political and economic delegation, the Cuban president arrived at Tehran airport on Sunday and was received by Minister of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education, Bahram Eynollahi.
Eynollahi welcomed Díaz-Canel as part of his duties as head of the Iran-Cuba Joint Cooperation Commission.
The official welcoming ceremony will be held at the Sa’dabad Historical-Cultural Complex this Monday, headed by the Iranian president.
The visit takes place 22 years after the one made by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, which Iranians still remember, as it brought much closer the interests of the two peoples and governments.
Cuba and Iran have a solid friendship of almost 44 years, which started on August 8, 1979. Both countries are the target of sanctions by the United States.
In June 2023, the Iranian president officially visited Cuba, during which six cooperation documents were signed.
Díaz-Canel arrived in Iran as part of a tour that took him to Qatar, where he met with 300 Cuban health professionals who provide medical cooperation, coinciding with Latin American Medicine Day.
The Cuban president began his Middle East tour in the United Arab Emirates, where he also participated in two global forums.
