Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, sent a message of congratulations to his Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyen Phu Trong, on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the independence of the brother country.

President Diaz-Canel also sent his greetings to his Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

In both messages, The Cuban president reiterated 'the unwavering decision to continue developing the historic ties of friendship and cooperation' between the two countries.

For his part, Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero conveyed Pham Minh Chinh, head of the Vietnamese Government, the willingness to continue developing the bilateral and multisectoral cooperation, according to the priorities and potentialities existing in both nations.

Vietnam celebrates its National Day on September 2 because on that date in 1945, Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at Hanoi's Ba Dinh Square, an act that put an end to French colonialism.

But Ho Chi Minh's homeland still had to fight 30 other years, in which million Vietnamese citizens were killed to defeat the invasion of US troops and achieve the reunification of the country on April 30, 1975.

These days, under special regulations due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese people celebrate the 76th anniversary of their independence and pay tribute to the leader who made it possible.
