Cuban easternmost province hosts 10th Meeting of Young Choreographers

From today until May 18, the city of Guantanamo will host conferences and choreographic presentations as part of the 10th Meeting of Young Choreographers, the only event of its kind in the country.

This edition pays tribute to the 35th anniversary of the Danza Libre company -also exclusive in Cuba-, the local professional dance movement, the tenth anniversary of the Professional Dance School and the art of the choreographic script.

Dairon Martinez Tejeda, president of the Hermanos Saiz Association (AHS by its Spanish acronym), explained that the tribute will also be extended to other groups that are part of this movement, such as the Babul Folkloric Ballet, in recognition of the artistic creation of the territory and that choreographers from all over Cuba continue committing themselves to dance.

He also stressed that the event will not only exhibit works, but will also serve as a space for analysis, with a jury that will advise the choreographers to enrich their proposals.

Magela Zamora, researcher of the meeting, highlighted the role of the Professional School of Dance, venue of the theoretical activities, of which she stressed that it is the training center that nurtures the companies of Guantanamo, Cuba and the world.

The program includes lectures on Free Dance, the documentary City of Dancers, workshops on choreographic creation and folklore, talks and rehearsals and dismantling of works, while the activities will reach communities and municipalities such as Manuel Tames and Caimanera, key in the local dance development.
