HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 21 (ACN) Cuban discus thrower Yaime Perez, winner in Doha 2019 and third in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, finished 7th in the final match of this specialty in 18th World Athletics Championships, held in Eugene, Oregon, U.S.A. after marking 63.07 m in her best throw.

Perez was far from her result in the qualifying stage, namely a season best 65.32 m, in a competition eventually—and surprisingly—won by the Chinese Bin Feng’s throw of 69.12 m, followed by the two-time Olympic and multiple world champion Croatian Sandra Perkovic (68.45 m) and the American Valarie Allman (68.30 m), gold medalist in Tokyo 2020.

Another Cuban who competed on Wednesday was Roxana Gómez, who finished fourth in the third 400 m semifinal heat with a time of 51.12 seconds.

So far, the best performances of Cuban athletes in Eugene are those of long jumper Maykel Massó and triple jumper Leyanis Pérez, both fourth in their respective competitions.
