The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS), organizations representing Cuba's artistic vanguard, have issued a call to provide aid for the territories affected by Hurricane Melissa.
UNEAC announced that at its national headquarters, located at 17 and H in Havana's Vedado district, it is now accepting donations for those impacted by the storm in the eastern part of the island nation.
Clothing, canned food, and hygiene products are the priority items requested as support for the victims affected by the onslaught of Melissa, which moved from south to north this Wednesday, striking the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo, Granma, Las Tunas, and Holguín.
The AHS, which brings together the Caribbean island's young creators, has also joined the appeal circulated through media and social networks.
Its president, Yaser Toledo Garnache, explained that they will be collecting donations at their headquarters in the Pabellón Cuba on Havana's La Rampa. He also stated that they will organize concerts in the coming days to raise funds to help mitigate the significant damages caused by the hurricane.
