Havana, Aug 20 (Prensa Latina) Cuba will proudly remember those who died in the line of duty during the fire in the Industrial Zone of the city of Matanzas, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero said.

On his Twitter account, he highlighted the people’s heartfelt tribute to the heroes who faced the fire of great proportions that started on August 5 at the Supertanker Base in that western Cuban province.

Marrero pointed out that “The Homeland beholds you proudly”, referring to a fragment of Cuba’s National Anthem.

The leader of the Revolution, Raúl Castro, and the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, paid tribute the day before to those who died after the accident, of which there are no precedents in the country, as far as the magnitude of the event is concerned.

In addition, the main authorities of the Party and the Government of the nation and of Matanzas were present, who expressed their condolences to the families and friends of the deceased.

About 15,000 people, on behalf of all Cuba, paid their respects as part of the funeral honors to those who died in the fire caused by a lightning strike on one of the fuel tanks of the supertanker base in the Matanzas industrial zone.
