Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez thanked Vietnam for having sent 12,000 tons of rice, which he called a show of historic brotherhood in bilateral relations.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met on Thursday with Cuban Ambassador Orlando Hernandez, and made a symbolic delivery of the solidarity gesture.
Ten thousand tons of the total volume were donated by the Communist Party, the State and the people of Vietnam, said the prime minister, and the remaining 2,000 tons were sent by the Communist Party's Committee in Hanoi.
The donations show the special bonds of fraternity and solidarity that unite us with Cuba, said Pham Minh Chinh.
'We will accompany side by side the Cuban people, who were by our side during the hardest moments of our history,' he said.
Vietnam has had other gestures of solidarity with Cuba during the Covid-19 crisis, as it sent 5,000 tons of rice and medical supplies to face the health emergency created by the pandemic.
