Cuba reports 6 750 new COVID-19 infections and 31 deaths

Cuban health authorities announced 31 deaths and 6 750 new infections of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours.

The national director of Epidemiology, Dr. Francisco Duran, said there were 28 205 confirmed patients hospitalized as of midnight. The specialist urged Cuban families to take care of their lives in the face of the aggressive behavior shown by COVID-19 strains circulating in the national territory.

As part of its updated protocols, the island counts as new cases those who test positive in PCR lab tests and to antigen tests.

With Saturday’s update, the island now accumulates 231 568 people diagnosed with the disease and 1490 deaths.

Matanzas reported 2657 cases, Guantanamo 932, Havana 608, and Santiago reported 500 cases.

So far, in July, there have been 37 623 cases, and it is already the month with the highest infection rate.

The good news and the hope on the island stand with the progress of the vaccination drive.
