Havana, Jan 31 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on Monday reported 2,119 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths due to complications related to this disease.

Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), said that 26,467 patients are in hospitals or at home nationwide, 12,599 of whom are suspected cases, 147 are under epidemiological surveillance and 13,721 are active cases (733 fewer than those reported on Sunday).

In his weekly press briefing on television, Dr. Duran stated that 3,022 patients were discharged after recovering from the disease and 13,721 patients are in hospitals, 13,663 of whom are clinically stable.

The doctor stated that 58 patients are being treated in intensive care units: 31 are in a critical condition and 27 are seriously ill. With these statistics, Cuba has accumulated 1,044,790 contagions and 8,399 deaths since March 11, 2020.

Cuba’s chief epidemiologist warned about a rise in pediatric cases since the last week of 2021, a total of 241 contagions were recorded in the first week of January and 609 in the fourth week of 2022.

Dr. Duran finally urged to continue with the care because the risk of Covid-19 contagions remains high.
