Cuba participates today in ECLAC forum on the Caribbean

Cuba participates today in a virtual forum of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) dedicated to discussing the complex scenario facing Caribbean countries in the midst of Covid-19.

The virtual session of ECLAC's Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee takes place this Thursday between 2:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., local time, and Déborah Rivas, Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, will participate on behalf of Cuba.

Representatives of the member countries of said Committee will analyze the regional perspectives from the adoption of creative and lasting solutions for the recovery of Covid-19, indicates the meeting's program.

Additionally, at the appointment, details of the virtual celebration of the thirty-eighth Sessions Period of ECLAC, scheduled to take place from October 26 to 28, will be announced.

At that time, Cuba will officially hand over the pro tempore presidency of the Commission to the government of Costa Rica.

Havana dedicated her term as head of the organization (2018-2020) to prioritize the countries of the area based on the Caribbean First initiative, presented during the thirty-seventh session held two years ago in the Cuban capital.

Recently, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, assured that the largest of the Antilles gave priority to the Caribbean countries, small island developing states with marked vulnerabilities, such as the effects of climate change, for example.
