Havana, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero recalled today the 24th anniversary of the imprisonment of five anti-terrorist fighters in the United States, which gave rise to a world movement for their release.

Through his Twitter account, the head of government recalled that as promised by historic leader Fidel Castro, in a massive march of the Cuban people, the five fighters returned to their country, after remaining in US prisons for more than 16 years.

The Five, as they were known worldwide, received undeserved sentences after a legal process with various irregularities, supposedly for being part of a spy network.

Despite the fact that it could not be verified that they had access to risky information for US national security, they remained in US prisons for more than 16 years.

Their resistance and courage sparked an international solidarity movement to demand their release.

On December 17, 2014, as a result of negotiations between the two countries, Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero and Ramón Labañino returned to the island; because Fernando González and René González had previously returned to the country after serving their sentences.
