Cuba Commemorates the 67th Anniversary of the Caravan of Freedom
especiales

Cuba today commemorates the entry of the historic leader Fidel Castro into Havana at the head of the Caravan of Freedom, which in 1959 consolidated the victory of the Rebel Army and the Revolution.
Through messages on the social network X, the country's highest authorities evoked the feat of the Rebel Army and ratified the will to continue defending national sovereignty and revolutionary principles.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated that the historical images "shake and summon today as in 1959." He emphasized that the Cuban people remain "fierce in the fight and joyful in victory," combating "without surrendering, always until victory."
Meanwhile, the President of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo, underlined that "the principles of the Cuban Revolution remain fully valid in defense of our Homeland, independence, and sovereignty."
The Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales, ratified on his X account the "loyalty to the principles upheld" by Fidel Castro and the decision to "continue defending our sovereignty and fighting for all justice."
In turn, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez recalled that 67 years ago, "a sea of people celebrated in the streets of the city the longed-for victory and the beginning of the Cuban Revolution." The head of Foreign Affairs emphasized that this "same people, warlike and seasoned in a thousand battles, reaffirms its commitment to the defense of the Homeland, the Revolution, and Socialism, in the face of the warmongering and interventionist threats of US imperialism."
The combatants of the Sierra Maestra, who managed to defeat the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista, followed a route of more than a thousand kilometers across the country from January 2 to 8, 1959. The caravan departed from Santiago de Cuba (east) and interacted with residents of different municipalities in the provinces of Granma, Holguín, Las Tunas, Camagüey, Santa Clara, Cienfuegos, and Matanzas on its way to Havana.
After several stops in the capital, the popular accompaniment to the historic leader of the Revolution continued to the former Columbia Barracks.
Each year, on the same date, Cubans from various generations retrace this route as a tribute to the Rebel Army and a way of showing their commitment to the Revolution on the island.
