The vice president of the Institute of Information and Social Communication of Cuba, Belkys Pérez Cruz, denounced here today the stigmatization of sovereign countries and the proliferation of fake news to justify imperialist interventions.
At the Global Media Dialogue in the financial capital of India, the Cuban journalist defended the position of her country, which is economically, commercially and financially blockaded by the U.S. government and unjustly included in a list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
She pointed out that the stigmatization of nations that defend their sovereignty and the proliferation of “fake news” in an attempt to justify imperialist interventions are victims of countries such as Cuba itself, Venezuela or the Palestinian people.
Pérez Cruz also ratified Cuba’s defense of ethical and truthful journalism committed to the rights of the peoples, at a time when disinformation and media manipulation threaten the sovereignty of nations and global peace.
She also affirmed that, in the global context, where hegemonic narratives are imposed, the island proclaims that information a citizen’s right, not a privilege or a weapon of domination.
