Experts have presented a list of 12 films that are currently considered strong contenders in the race for the golden statuette.
Many productions have generated positive reviews since their premieres at major international festivals, although some maintain an air of suspense until their release date, reported the British outlet BBC.
Leading the Pack
Among the favorites is Hamnet, an adaptation of the novel by Maggie O'Farrell. The story revolves around Agnes, the wife of William Shakespeare, and her struggle to overcome the loss of her only son, Hamnet, according to the source.
Another film featured in the catalog is Sinners, by Ryan Coogler. The American film tells the story of twin brothers who return to their hometown to restart their lives, unaware that a greater evil awaits them.
A university professor, played by Julia Roberts, finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star student (Ayo Edebiri) accuses one of her colleagues (Andrew Garfield) and a dark secret from her past threatens to come to light, describes the synopsis of Witch Hunt, a co-production between the United States and Italy directed by Luca Guadagnino.
International and Critical Darlings
Following, in the tenth spot on the list, is A Simple Accident, written and directed by the acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi.
The film won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival this past May and is likely to be nominated in the international category, “as it has been selected to represent France instead of its country of origin, Iran.”
It could also feature in the Best Picture category, forecasted the BBC.
The Full Contender List
The list is completed by other notable titles such as One Battle After Another, Bugonia, Anemone, The Machine, and Sentimental Value.
