China will leverage the Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as an opportunity to ensure the full success of the upcoming summit in Tianjin, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated today.
Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, recalled that Beijing currently holds the rotating presidency of the SCO for the 2024–2025 term. He noted that the summit is scheduled to take place this fall in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin.
He further added that the foreign ministers’ meeting aims to facilitate the political preparations necessary for the summit.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will preside over the gathering, during which his counterparts from the member states will exchange views on cooperation across a wide range of fields. The meeting will also address major international and regional issues.
China is ready to use this event as an opportunity to work with all parties to build broader consensus on cooperation, take further steps toward concrete outcomes, ensure the full success of the Tianjin summit, and help guide the SCO into a new stage of high-quality development, the spokesperson said.
