Casa de las Américas Reiterates Support for Venezuela, Condemns US "Warmongering"

For Latin America and the Caribbean, "stopping the warmongering bluster of the United States government and preserving the continent as a zone of peace are, right now, our most sacred duties," emphasized the Casa de las Américas today.

In a statement issued this Tuesday, the prestigious cultural institution reiterated its support for the Venezuelan people and government in the face of a threatened US military incursion into the South American nation.

The statement warns that "the real purpose of the growing military and media offensive is the old imperial yearning to crush the Bolivarian Revolution, control the country's immense strategic resources, and consolidate dominance over the region, returning it to the era of the Big Stick."

The declaration, titled "The destiny of Our America is tied to the destiny, integrity, and dignity of Venezuela," presents a stark view of US policy. It asserts that the United States "is at war," citing the domestic targeting of dissenters and migrants, and the militarization of its cities.

As part of this "delirium," the statement continues, the US government has "revived the designation of the Secretary of War" and mobilized naval assets in the Caribbean, a region with a "long and sinister history of US military interventionism." It further accuses US forces of "blowing up small boats off the coast of Venezuela... executions not endorsed by any legality or morality."

The document dismisses the US government's justification—the fight against drug trafficking—as a "specious argument" historically used to install military bases and overthrow governments.

On Venezuela, the statement alleges that the "warmongering frenzy" coincides with a denounced false-flag operation, aiming to create a "casus belli." It concludes with a firm declaration of solidarity, stating that the Venezuelan people and government "must know that they have the support of millions of women and men conscious that the destiny of Our America is tied to the destiny, integrity, and dignity of Venezuela."
