Brasilia, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) Bishops denounced President Jair Bolsonaro before the United Nations and the World Health Organization (WHO) for his contempt for the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil, with more than 222,000 deaths to date.

According to journalist Jamil Chad of the UOL news portal, religious entities and bishops informed the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights that the pandemic in Brazil is 'fueled by contradictory political, economic and social behavior, negative, indifferent to pain.'

They also pointed out that the Bolsonaro government, given its actions in the health crisis, 'amplifies the deep inequalities' and they (the denouncers) demand investigations.

The group also asserted that it supports the 60+ requests for the removal of the President, 'in particular for crimes of responsibility with respect to public health policies in times of pandemic.'

Among the entities that are denouncing Bolsonaro are the Special Commission for Integral Ecology and Mining of the National Confederation of Bishops, the National Council of Christian Churches, the Indigenous Missionary Council, International Franciscans, the Lutheran Diakonia Foundation, as well as missionary, congregations and sisters' organizations.

In addition to the UN and WHO, the plaintiffs required that the Pan American Health Organization put pressure on the Brazilian government, perceiving that there is no 'transparency in information and even less confidence in the decisions made by political representations in relation to containment of the Covid-19'.
