The awards for the 12th edition of the Post-it Cuban Contemporary Art Contest were presented today at the Submarino Amarillo Cultural Center, operated by the company Artex, in this capital city.
The event reaffirms its commitment to promoting emerging visual artists from the Caribbean island, stated the management of the Collage Habana art galleries, part of the Cuban Fund for Cultural Goods, in a release.
It was reported that this edition received 84 artistic proposals from nearly all regions of the country, with significant representation from the provinces of Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Las Tunas, Camagüey, and Havana.
After a rigorous selection process, 36 works were chosen to form the contest exhibition, displayed simultaneously at the Collage Habana and Galiano galleries in this capital.
The jury was composed of Jorge Fernández, director of the National Museum of Fine Arts, who presided over the panel; Julio César Pérez, director of the San Alejandro Academy; José Fernández, curator of the Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center; Yamilis Brito, visual artist and director of the Experimental Graphic Workshop of Havana; and Dannys Montes de Oca, curator of the Habana Gallery.
The first prize was awarded to Andy Mendoza for his work Ocho meses después; the second prize was received by Amanda Delgado for her piece Veo veo; and the third prize was obtained by Kevin Oramas for Habbitepp.
In addition to the main awards, the jury gave honorable mentions to Leidy Rodríguez for En devenir (Tríptico); Luis Alberto Álvarez for Collage #13 #22 #21 (Tríptico); and Daniel Antón Morera for Artista sin nómina, sin curriculum, sin historia.
With over a decade of history, the Post-it Cuban Contemporary Art contest reaffirms its role as an indispensable platform for the visibility and circulation of emerging talent in Cuba, the text acknowledged.
