Havana, Oct 27 (Prensa Latina) The American continent records today around 19,800,00 positive Covid-19 cases, thus approaching the round figure of 20 million, according to UN data.
America is the geographical area most affected by the pandemic, and the death toll of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes the disease, exceeds 625,000. The most scourged countries in the region are the U.S., Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru.

Regionally, Latina America and the Caribbean are reporting over 10,890,000 infections. Over 391,000 have died and more than 9,439,000 have recovered.

According to international organizations, this region is facing one of the most severe crisis of its history, which has brought into view its vulnerability and structural challenges.

The SARS-CoV-2 reached Latin America on Feb.26, 2020, when Brazil confirmed the first positive case in Sao Paulo. Since then, its negative impact has advanced, and at present, the region has over a quarter of the cases reported in the world.

More than 43 million people have been infected with Covid-19 across the globe.
