Everything is ready in this city for the second Youth Baseball5 World Cup to begin this Wednesday, under the auspices of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).
The tournament format and the official schedule were revealed yesterday for the event, which will be played from September 24th to 27th with 16 participating teams. France and Ghana will open the action in a tournament that combines a group stage and a single-elimination playoff.
Baseball5, which originated in the neighborhoods of Cuba and Venezuela, has grown rapidly around the world, becoming an accessible urban sport known for its dynamism and fast pace.
Cuba, the holder of the first edition's title in 2023 and the current senior world champion, will seek to reaffirm its dominance against emerging rivals.
The groups for the opening stage are:
Group A: Tunisia, Mexico, Lithuania, China
Group B: Cuba, Korea, Kenya, Spain
Group C: Japan, Venezuela, Turkey, Fiji
Group D: France, Chinese Taipei, Ghana, Puerto Rico
The playoffs will begin on September 25th, with the semifinals following a day later and the final on the 27th, concluding a tournament that promises to consolidate the global expansion of Baseball5.
The winner will secure a direct ticket to the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the event where this sport will make its debut.
