Camagüey, Cuba, Aug 25 (Prensa Latina) After his crown in the Mirandela Open, Cuban chess player Carlos Albornoz returns to compete in Portugal to increase his virtual ELO of 2,600 points.

The Cuban player, who served on the second board of Cuba’s national team in the recently concluded World Olympiad in India, envisions better prospects in this modality thanks to competitions of these kinds.

“As of this day I participate in another tournament here in Portugal,” he said via WhatsApp in the expectation of seeing himself from September 1, among the men with more than 2,600 ELO points, one of his great goals in his continuing career of ascent in the Kingdom of Caissa.

In exclusive statements to Prensa Latina, he gave his opinion on the highest elite tournament for inter-nation teams, which ended with the victory of Usbekistan in the men’s tournament and the Ukrainian team in the women’s tournament.

“I had a great tournament in the Olympiad just like the rest of my teammates. I only got confused in rigor in the last game, went wrong in the opening and lost. I gained 10 ELO points. We finished among the top 2O and that was the goal,” he said.

For the 2019 National Champion, the youngest player to achieve it after 13-year-old Jose Raul Capablanca, the previous preparation was crucial to iron out differences with aspects of the game, including schedules.

“In the case of the men’s team, we arrived at the Olympiad very well. We were in Spain before and played an open tournament and that gave us a very good feeling, he said.

“The atmosphere in Europe acclimates you to Asia, so things went well for all of us,” he said via Whatsapp.

After the Olympiad in Chennai, Albornoz was crowned in the open chess tournament in Mirandela, Portugal.
